Bohm Meinl

Germany

1948-

Company was started in Germany, established after WWII,

They started making tubas for Carl Fischer to market under the York label in the 1950s-60s. It is unclear how much production help Fischer gave to them in the development of these instruments. The Marzan design is also wrapped up in the production questions about these horns. They made stencil horns based on Fred Marzans designs, and made the York Master brand, in addition to selling uder their own name. They already had a reputation for making high quality tubas.

Boehm and Meinl was purchased in 1992 by Walter Nirschl, who after working for other the German instrument manufacturers, purchased Boehm & Meinl in the early 1990s.
